The Courage to Speak Out

Daniel Beaty - The Tallest Tree in the ForestPaul Robeson was a acclaimed actor and singer. He was best known for his rich, deep baritone voice and the song Ol’ Man River. What I didn’t know about him was that he was an activist speaking out against segregation and prejudice in our country. His affinity for the Soviet Union and a land where people of all colors and religions were treated equally was a driving force in his life. He was outspoken, an activist, an instigator and someone whose views threatened many a public official within our government.

Paul Robeson’s courage and conviction reminds me of our Transformation Leadership graduates. Women who have been through their own traumas and ordeals to become bold leaders who share their own stories and hardships to uplift and empower others.

Graduates and supporters attended our Leap to Success VIP night at the one-man show Tallest Tree in the Forest based on Paul Robeson’s life at The La Jolla Playhouse. A rare treat was meeting the phenomenal actor Daniel Beaty at our very own VIP private reception after the show.

Have a peek at a beautiful video montage  by Miranda Anita of Media Pro Productions.
