Whenever my inspiration for writing is running low, I like to read quotes from people I admire to help get my creative juices flowing again. So this week, as I found my fingers stuck motionless to my keyboard and absolutely nothing going on upstairs that even remotely resembled a thought I could build upon, I began a search for quotes about confidence to help push me along.
As a result of my search, I found a quote by Vince Lombardi, beloved American football coach and arguably one of the best football coaches of all time. Even if you are not a football fan, I will bet you have probably heard of the Vince Lombardi Trophy, which just happens to be THE coveted award received each year by the winner of the Super Bowl.
Mr. Lombardi said, “Confidence is contagious. So is lack of confidence.” Of course these words were uttered in the context of football, but strung together in that way, they become a universal truth. I am sure if he were with us today, he could tell us many stories of football games won and lost based solely on either the presence or lack of confidence among the team. Can you think of wins and losses in your own life, whether business or personal, where the outcome could have been different had you had more confidence? That would be a resounding YES for me!
So here is a challenge for you. Try it on for size. Put on your best and latest version of confidence at work, at home, everywhere you go this week and see how others respond to you. See how you respond to yourself. If you’re not really confident, then fake it until you make it as the saying goes. Just give it a shot. I wouldn’t ask you to do anything I wouldn’t do myself. So, today marks the debut of Confident Lana Version 5.0. I am stepping out of my comfort zone and giving it a try too. I will let you know how it goes, and I hope you will let me know your results as well. Who knows what good things will happen.
