Beth Thorp, Co-Founder, Executive Director
The Mitchell Thorp Foundation
Through the most terrible loss and darkest of times, the pathway of healing can include giving hope and help to others. Beth Thorp has walked that pathway with courage, faith and generosity.
In 2008, Beth Thorp and her family went through the unimaginable, the loss of her 18-year-old son Mitchell to an undiagnosed illness -he courageously battled for five years. After enduring the grieving process, Beth and her husband Brad decided to take the pain of losing their son and turn it into something that would help other families. In 2009, they started the Mitchell Thorp Foundation in his honor. Beth, Brad, and their son Matthew have been able to continue the legacy of Mitchell’s strength and courage through the foundation.
The Mitchell Thorp Foundation supports families of children who are suffering life-threatening illnesses by providing financial, emotional, and resource support as they navigate through this difficult time. It makes sure families don’t feel neglected or alone in a time that can be incredibly isolating. Having gone through the heartache of losing a child themselves, Beth and Brad know the importance of community during -this experience, and help provide support for these families. The Mitchell Thorp Foundation continues to grow and serve families in California. Beth and her family are guided by their faith, especially by Mitchell’s favorite bible verse: Joshua 1:9 “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be terrified; do not be discouraged, for the LORD your God will be with you wherever you go.”
