How Do You Spell Confidence?

I like spelling.  It’s something I have always had a knack for.  You might say that I am confident I am a good speller.  Or maybe that I have spelling confidence.  That’s a start, right?  I am recognizing something I am good at and I am telling myself about it–All in the name of my quest to learn how to build more self-confidence.

Not only do I like spelling, but I am also quite fond of words, and have a special affinity for putting them to work in an acrostic.  In the event you are unfamiliar with the acrostic, according to dictionary.com, an acrostic is “a series of lines or verses in which the first, last, or other particular letters when taken in order spell out a word, phrase, etc.”

I tell you that, to tell you this;  In the spirit of Labor Day I decided not to labor over a blog topic and chose instead to have a little fun.  So, I have created a Confidence acrostic.  And I am fairly confident you will enjoy it!

C-Clarity              Clarity, as in how it pertains to how clearly you see yourself.  Until you have clarity about something it’s hard to move forward because you don’t know where you are going.  Be honest and clear with yourself about the areas in your life that need your attention.

O-Own                 Own your life.  You be the captain.  Recognize your inner strength and begin using it to better steer your life.

N-Nice                  Be nice to you.  Treat yourself like you want others to treat you.

F-Freedom         Freedom to be comfortable in your own skin.  That’s your right.  Exercise it.  Practice it.   For example, the more confident I become the more I accept my lack of fashion sense and become comfortable with it.  It’s part of who I am.  Now I am learning to be comfortable with asking for guidance and suggestions so that I never end up on anyone’s fashion police report!

I-I am                    I am a confident woman.    Just keep saying it until you believe it!  Affirm all of the good stuff in your life, like I did with my declaration of being a good speller.

D-Dedication     Do something every day towards becoming more self-confident.  Be diligent and dedicated to doing what it takes to bring about real change in how you see yourself and treat yourself and see what happens, especially if you have never given it a try before!

E-Encourage       Encourage yourself.  Don’t point out what you didn’t get done on your To Do List.  Pat yourself on the back for what you DID do.

N-Notes               Notes.  Write yourself notes.  Tell yourself how special you are.  The more you see it, read it, write it…the more real it becomes in your life! (I keep mine on the bathroom mirror.  This week’s note says “I deserve to be  happy!”  And the more I read it the more I truly believe that I do!)

C-Change            Change.  If it doesn’t work for the greater good of moving you forward in your life CHANGE it!  If the goal is building more self-confidence, then change, or ex-change, the negative stuff for positive stuff.

E-Eagle                 Be one!  Eagles are bold, powerful, graceful, and majestic.  Be that in your life!

Leap to Success
Leap to Success

When a woman walks through our doors, she comes bearing a story of survival, strength, and quiet courage. Camie, a 39-year-old single mother and survivor of domestic abuse, found herself at a crossroads. She signed up for Leap to Confidence, unsure of what came next, but she was determined to find out. The program gave Camie purpose and space to reflect, to dig deep, and to begin again.

Camie shares, “This program is like a breath of fresh air when you didn’t know you needed it. It’s like oxygen when you didn’t know you were short of breath. I’m getting to know myself, accepting what I’ve been through. I know I’m gonna be okay. I can be a confident woman who’s gonna be successful. Every week I feel a little bit stronger.”

Many of the women we serve are survivors of domestic abuse. So, in honor of Domestic Violence Awareness Month, a handful of our generous donors have established a matching empowerment fund of $50,000 to raise money to EMPOWER 100 WOMEN on the next part of their healing journey.

Together, we're not just raising awareness. We're rebuilding a woman's belief in herself. Thank you for standing with us, walking beside survivors, and inspiring them to chase after their greatest potential. To empower women like Camie, click here: givebutter.com/100women
